What I'm Making Monday: Blinged out Headbands Giveaway

Well, it’s Monday again and this is the second edition of my What I’m Making Monday posts.  I’m really starting to like these things. It forces me to get back in the hang of crafting.  I’m loving all the other ideas I see linked up at Baby Makin{g} Machine’s blog.  Not to mention, that’s how I got my first two Google followers!!  So, exciting.  Feels like I’m finally proving myself as a mommy blogger.

But anyways, back to what I’m making for today’s post.  If you’re following me on Twitter (@Yummommies) or on Facebook (Young Urban Modern Mommies), then you would know that I had my first public showing of my Etsy Accessory Line, KE Original.  Well, being a mommy of one very spoiled and pampered Princess, I thought it would be a good idea to try my hand at making some cute hair accessories.  And being the bling lover that I am, I decided to make Blinged out Headbands adorned with flowers.

To create these inexpensive works of art all you need is:

A Plastic Headband
Colorful Rhinestones
Flowers
Adhesive Glue
Scissors
Once you have all your supplies gathered you want to:
  1. Remove the flowers from the wire stem and use your scissors to cut off the plastic stem part that connected the two.
  2. Add a medium sized dot of adhesive to your headband and then attach your flower(s).
  3. Start adding your rhinestones along both sides using the same adhesive.  Be sure not to put too big of a dot for the rhinestones so that it doesn’t ooze from under the edges.
  4. Allow the headband to dry for at least 15 minutes.

Your final product should look very similar to mine pictured below.

Hope you have fun trying your hand at creating one of these. I had so much fun that I did like 15 of them.  And I want to give two of them away to two of my blog readers.  So, you could be the lucky person to win one!! All you have to do to win is Subscribe to my blog.

There's A Party Coming to My City

There’s a party coming to my city!!  So yummy, so yummy!!!!  So if you don’t know by now Yo Gabba Gabba is has organized a 60-city North American tour kicking off on Friday, August 27, 2010 in Bethel, NY.  And I am beyond stoked to have the priviledge to have been selected to attend the October 17th show here in Charlotte, NC courtesy of the nice folks at the Ovens Auditorium as well as everyone else involved with the Yo Gabba Gabba Live!: There’s A Party in My City! tour sponsored by Kia Motors.  I have been a huge Yo Gabba Gabba fan for a while now.

Like seriously with all the crazy cartoons and shows on television now it’s nice to find that one show that’s truly family oriented and wholeseome for our children to watch.  For those of you who (A) don’t have cable tv, (B) don’t have children or (C) live under a rock, Yo Gabba Gabba is a show about DJ Lance Rock and his awesome friends-Brobee (the little green one), Foofa (she likes to have fun), Muno (he’s tall and friendly), Toodee (she likes to have fun) and Plex (a magic robot).  Within show DJ Lance and his friends teach children value lessons about sharing, being considerate of others and showing respect as well as the importance of practicing healthy habits like eating your veggies and washing your hands through song and dance.

Personally my favorite part of the show is Biz’s Beat of the Day and seeing what celebrity will be doing the Dancey Dance of the Day.  And it’s going to be so exciting to get to see DJ Lance and the whole Yo Gabba Gabba gang live and up close and personal.  Not to mention I’m interested in finding out what musical guest will be performing during the Super Music Friends Show segment.  I’m hoping for Fantasia or Anthony Hamilton since they both reside here in Charlotte.  Maybe, we’ll have a Carolina Panther’s player doing the Dancey Dance segment.  Speaking of football, maybe some some of you remember the Kia Motors Super Bowl ad for the 2011 Kia Sorento CUV that featured Muno (the tall one eyed orange character) from Yo Gabba Gabba.  If not check out the clip below.

It’s hard to believe that Yo Gabba Gabba the television show was launched just three seasons ago by co-creators Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz and now it’s airing in several major countries around the globe like Israel, South Africa and the UK!!  And the Yo Gabba Gabba Live tour series was successfully launched in November 2009.  It became a major hit selling out in major cities and attracting celeb families such as Snoop Dogg, super model Heidi Klum, Brooke Shields and many more.

I just want to encourage all of you to grab tickets to the closest show near you before tickets are sold out.  This year $1 from every ticket purchased will be donated to the Habitat for Humanity local affiliate in your tour city.  It’s the best of both worlds people. A wholesome concert that the whole family can enjoy and you’re helping out needy families at the same time.

VIP packages will be available for those parents and families interested in meeting the cast and getting photos.  To purchase tickets you can visit the Official Yo Gabba Gabba Live website.  And don’t forget to you and the family can tune into Yo Gabba Gabba seven days a week on Nick Jr.

Now, to show appreciation for all of you who support Yo Gabba Gabba, we have awesome Yo Gabba Gabba Prize Pack to give away to one lucky YUMMommy reader.  The Prize Pack includes:

One ‘Yo Gabba Gabba!: Music is Awesome Volume 1 CD which features hit songs from all three seasons by artists like the Roots, Shins and more. Volume 2 is set to be released later on this August.  So keep a look out for it.

One ‘Yo Gabba Gabba!: Clubhouse’ DVD with performances from Erykah Badu, The Killlers and more.

Bonding Time With McDonald's

Every family has a place that is THE place for family memories and bonding time.  For me and my family that place is McDonald’s.

When I transferred to a new school district, my mom would bring me a hambergur Happy Meal from McDonald’s for the first month.

In middle school, my mom would get two apple pies from McDonald’s and my siblings and I would split them among ourselves.

My niece celebrated her first birthday party at McDonald’s.

One of Moo’s first words was McDonald’s. (No lie. We have Grandma to thank for this.)

And I’m pretty sure that Moo’s first food was french fries from McDonald’s. (Courtesy of Grandma too.)

The Evidence

Thanks to McDonald’s my brother got the money he needed to go to college. Yep, he won a McDonald’s scholarship!

Now, McDonald’s has become the spot where I take Moo to make memories.  At least twice a month, just the two of us go to McDonald’s and I get her a chicken nugget Happy Meal and we bond.  The smile on her face is enough to warm my heart and let me that she appreciates this mommy-daughter time, especially since JJ was born.

And thanks to @McD_CLTArea, you can start making McDonald’s apart of your family memories and bonding experiences.  Today until September 21st, I’m giving away a two McDonald’s coupons: (1)-FREE Bowl of Fruit & Maple Oatmeal and (1)- FREE Medium McCafe Coffee to a YUMMommy reader in the NC and SC area.  Use the neat little Rafflecopter form below to enter.

{Disclaimer-All opinions expressed are my own.  I did receive coupons for FREE McDonald’s products.}

Memory Keeper

Every family has a memory keeper aka scrapbooker.  Growing up my mom was the memory keeper out of her siblings.  She was always the one with the camera in her hand snapping candids at family dinners and holiday parties.  Then she would develop those pictures and put them in scrapbooks with each page custom decorated with stickers and cute little paper creations she’d either found or made herself.
Well, I guess the torch of memory keeper has been passed down to me because I’m now the one who’s always behind the camera snapping pictures to store in scrapbooks.  And thanks to My Memories Suite, I don’t have to spend hours or hundreds of dollars hunting down scrapbooking accessories and stationery.  Instead, I can create, decorate and print out custom pages from the comforts of my couch.  They have lots of templates to choose from like this one
This digital scrapbooking software gives you unlimited possibilities.  The best part besides being inexpensive is that you can also use it create birthday flyers, holiday cards, family newsletter and more.  You can choose your background, upload images, add text and much more.  In fact, I’m already working on creating a family Christmas card. (Yes, I’m that person.)  What do you think?
Pretty good huh?  I’m thinking that I’ll be tackling invitations for Moo’s birthday party next.  Overall, My Memories Suite is easy to buy, easy to download and easy use.  And guess what? One of you lucky memory keepers will get the chance to see just easy this amazing scrapbook software really is.
Yep, you can win your own FREE download of My Memories Suite by using giveaway form below.  Good luck.  Winner will be announced on Nov 9th!!  Meanwhile, you can stay updated on all their latest news by checking out their blog.
