Dressing Mad Men Style With Eshakti

Disclosure: I reviewed a product to facilitate this review.  All opinions expressed are 100% my own.
The holidays are officially upon us and I’m going mad!  Mad Men style that is thanks to my friends over at eShakti.com.  Now, I don’t get fancy for Thanksgiving because that’s the one holiday besides the 4th of July and Memorial Day that I think it’s acceptable to dress casual.  However, Christmas and New Year’s are right around the corner and I’ve always been raised to pull out my Sunday best to celebrate.  And eSkakti’s Fall 2013 Collection couldn’t have come out at a better time.
Curved Button Front Faux-Wrap Dress
If you don’t know by now, I’m totally an eShakti girl when it comes to dresses.  (See here and here).  So, when I saw this houndstooth twofer dress, I just had to have it.  And knowing that it was Mad Men inspired only made me want it even more.  I’ve been a fan of the sophistication of the 50s and 60s.
What do I love about this dress?  For starters it looks like it’s two pieces (hence the word twofer)- a skirt and a blouse.  Speaking of the skirt and blouse, I love the high fold over collar because I’m not necessarily a fan of necklaces.  And with this collar, I don’t need one.  The pencil skirt bottom features not only a black and white houndstooth print but a tulip (or curved) hem with a split in the back.  And let’s not forget the button detailing along the side.
Most importantly what I love about this dress is that I got to customize it to fit my body and silhouette specifically.  If you recall in the original picture above this dress had capped sleeves.  I had elbow length sleeves to make it more fall/winter weather appropriate.  I also chose to get the skirt so that the curve it above the knee, but you can adjust it to have it fall right at knee level or below the knee as well.
You can totally see the Mad Men inspiration of dress from the pictures above.  The side button detail. Accentuated waists. Wrapped tops and bottoms. Pencil skirts.  The black & white color scheme.
And of course to finish off my look, I couldn’t forget about hair and accessories.  For hair, I’m thinking of rocking bangs with a faux-hair cut (just pin the edges of long underneath the nape so that it bows out giving the appearance of a short hair cut).  And for accessories, I’m keeping it simple with diamond studs & tennis bracelet, a mesh silver watch with rhinestone detailing and mother of pearl face and of course my promise ring (I may or may not have lost my wedding rings.)  And for shoes, I was thinking of adding a twist wearing a pair of metallic bronze gladiator style heels.
So, there you have it folks!  That is my holiday look in a nutshell.  I definitely encourage you to skip on over to eShakti.com and check out their Fall 2013 Collection.  Who knows you might just find a little something for your holiday parties or maybe another gift to add to your Christmas list for Santa aka our significant other.  I’m going to leave you with a few more of my favorites.

No nonsense Style Made Easy

When it comes to style, complicated is not for me.  In fact, I would describe my style as simple and comfortable mixed with accents of trendy and chic pieces.  As a mom of two young kids, I have to be practical in the clothing I wear.  However, I’m also a brand owner and need to make sure that I’m not in a mom uniform when I step out.  This is why No nonsense tights and leggings are perfect for me.
I recently received a pair of the cotton leggings in Espresso and a pair of their opaque tights in Deep Burgundy. Right off the bat I loved the colors because if anybody who’s seen my wardrobe can tell you that I own quite a few pieces in the brown and purple tones.  Secondly, I’m obsessed with tights and leggings.  Lastly, I’m no stranger to the No nonsense brand and have been a fan of their products for a while now.  Let me tell you, the leggings and tights did not disappoint. Check out how I styled them below.

The opague tights were perfect with this denim skirt because it has a high split in the front and since we are in the thick of winter, I was not interested in feeling that winter chill creeping up my legs.  Also, since my sweater and top are neutral colors the deep burgandy of the tights added nice little pop of color.

Here I paired the espresso colored leggings with a long peasant style button up top and my trusty black knee boots.  I have to say that the powder blue and espresso were a nice color combination.  Also, the top fits much better in person than it photographed.  I loved the way the legging fit. They clung just right without being too tight and were very breathable.
If you haven’t tried any of the No nonsense products, I would definitely suggest that you start off with the tights and leggings.  They’re affordably priced and you can find them in food and drug stores as well as mass retailers like Belk or Walmart.  Also, if you haven’t heard, No nonsense has recently partnered with Jill Martin.  Yes, I’m talking about Emmy Award-winning, NY Times bestselling co-author of “I Have Nothing To Wear!”  and Access Hollywood NY correspondent Jill Martin.

She’s come on board as a brand ambassador and style expert to educate and share tips on how we can get the most out of these new, colorful and trendy tights and leggings from No nonsense in a series of online videos.  I for one am looking forward to getting a few more outfit inspiration to try out in the New Year.  You can also catch her sharing tips on Twitter and enter to win a chance to win shopping spree for you and friend with Jill on Facebook.  So be sure to ‘Like’ No nonsense on Facebook and follow them on Twitter to stay in the loop.
Are tights and leggings staples in your wardrobe?

Fashion Find: Adding Style to Your Man’s Wardrobe

Let me just say that while some of the greatest fashion houses in world were started by men, when it comes to styling themselves so men can be down right clueless.  I mean they can tell you what does or doesn’t look good on your body, but they can’t even coordinate a suit, tie and shirt for themself.  Crazy but true.  So, once again we have the save day and make a few tweaks so that can look as fresh and clean as Denzel Washington and not like a target on What Not to Wear.

Anyways, having seen some of the pictures of celebs from Fashion Week got me to looking at my hubby and his wardrobe.  Seriously, if I’m going to be walking the red carpet and attending all sorts of lovely fashion events in the near future, I can’t have him looking anything other than his best.  Right now the most stylish and dressy outfit he owns is a pair of black slacks and a blue button down with a matching blue tie.  So, not cutting it.  Well, who do you turn to when you want to add a little style to your man’s wardrobe?  Why P. Diddy of course!

I mean have you seen how fresh and clean he always looks?  And guess what 99% of the things he’s seen in are from his own Sean John line.  It’s sort of couture affordable fashions for men.  Anyways, here are my fave picks that I would love to add to revamp the hubby’s wardrobe with.
