  • HEELYS Is Back

HEELYS is back!!  And this time they have styles that the entire family can enjoy.  Long gone are the days when HEELYS were just for kids.  They recently unveiled their Fall 2012 collection and I love it!  In fact, I actually had the opportunity to review one of their latest styles for women.
    How cute are these?!!
Move over red bottoms, I’m totally loving my new pink bottomed HEELYS Joggers.  Seriously, I’ve worn these cuties almost everyday since the FedEx truck dropped them off.  And yes, the wheels are removable.  And while we’re on the subject of the wheels, I highly recommend that you practice in your kitchen or on a hard surface if you are going to wear them with the wheels in.  It does take a bit of practice to get the hang of gliding while balancing your weight on your heels, but once you got it, it’s smooth sailing.
    Pink Bottoms!! Pretty!!
What I really love most about the Jogger is that it’s girly but with still has an athletic look.  This is perfect for my tomboy side.  The contrast of the black and charcoal with the detailing and silver HEELYS logo is a perfect color combination.  And I love that when the wheels aren’t in, there’s a black cover that I can snap in place.  Who likes walking around with a hole in the bottom of their shoes? I don’t!
Overall, I’m very pleased my new addition to my shoe collection.  HEELYS has done a wonderful job of revamping their line.  If you’re an athletic mom or have an active family then you might want to put a few of these on under the tree for Christmas.  Check out a few of the other styles I liked.

  • Thankful Thursday

Happy Thankful Thursday yall!!  Did you remember to vote for me in Circle of Moms Top 25 Southern Moms?  If not be sure to click on the little button to your right.  This week has been pretty low key.  And I’m very thankful for that because I’ve needed the time to sort through my hundreds of emails that piled up while I was away.  So, if you sent me a message and haven’t heard back I’m getting around to it.
I’m also thankful that we had a great time at my cousin and friend’s wedding this past weekend.  It was such a great feeling to be all glammed up and celebrating with my family and friends.  Speaking of friends, I made a new friend at the wedding.  She has her own business that focuses on women empowerment.  You’ll be seeing a post about that soon. She’s really trying to do something great and I would love it if all my YUMMs would support her as well!
Last night we put Moo in a big girl bed right next to ours and she did well.  She’s not quite ready to go to her own room yet, but this is progress.  A part of me is happy that she’s making even more strikes toward independence.  However, there’s also a side of me that’s a little side because soon she probably will be comfortable sleeping in her own room alone.  I’m not going to get too started up about it.
JJ is becoming more talkative.  I can see that he’s learning because he already knows that the remote works the tv, the toothbrush is for brushing teeth or scratching gums and he can take his pants and diaper off.  Not sure if I’m too happy about those last two.  One night while we were at my mom’s, I woke up thinking his diaper needed to be changed and he had taken it off already and flung it to the foot of the bed!  Thank goodness he hadn’t peed on me.
I’m thankful that fall is almost here!  Summer was good but I’m anxious to see if we’ll get some snow and to pig out for Thanksgiving.  I’ve already started Christmas shopping and wrapping presents.  All that’s missing is a fireplace for me to light a few logs in.
Lastly, I’m thankful that my baby sister will soon be a Queen City resident as well.  It’s going to feel good to have her just 30 minutes up the road.  And did I mention, she’ll be attending the same college I went to?!!  I’m beyond proud of her.  It’s not easy to leave a school where you’ve already made friends and start over again.  I’m confident that all will be ok.

  • Give Me A Vote

I first stumbled across Circle of Moms on Facebook back in 2008.  I was still pregnant with Moo and looking for a place to connect with other young moms.  What better place to find some virtual support groups than Facebook right?  Anyways, Circle of Moms turned out to be a great resource, especially when I  started finding out about all of Moo’s allergies and I made the choice to breastfeed.
So, it’s pleasure to have been nominated as one of their Top 25 Southern Moms!  I hope that I’m not asking a lot, but I could really use your votes in making it into the Top 25.  Just click on the little button below and look for YUMMommy.  Then click the orange thumbs up button to cast your vote!

Don’t forget to tell your friends!

  • My Weekend WrapUp

Happy Monday!!  The weekend is officially over and the kids are back in school.  Hope everyone a great weekend.  I’m glad to be back blogging.  I’ve missed you all dearly!  I’m slowly but surely making a dent in the posts that have piled up in my Google Reader.
Anyways, this weekend was one of the busiest and most fun that we’ve had these last few weeks.  My cousin and one of my good friends tied the knot this weekend.  I was one of the bridesmaids.  I had a ball.  Starting with Friday night at the rehearsal.
I got to meet the other bridesmaids and ended up making a few new friends.  I saw some of my other family members that I hadn’t seen ages because we all have our own families and are spread out.  One of our cousins even flew in from Texas to serve as a groomsmen.  I thought that was really sweet!  The bishop who officiated the ceremony was hilarious!
I enjoy ministers who can let their guard down and be human.  And my uncle catered the rehearsal dinner since it was his son that was getting married to my friend.  Let me tell you guys, he can throw down in the kitchen!  My uncle never disappoints when he cooks.  We had two different types of herb chicken, pasta salad, a fruit salad, rolls, cakes and more.  It was delish!
Saturday was the big day.  Everyone was super excited.  The other bridesmaids and I enjoyed the luxury of having our makeup done by a professional makeup artist!  Talking about getting pampered.  I had false eyelashes for the first time and loved them!  I had never tried them before because I have long lashes and usually just add some mascara to give them a fuller and thicker look, but I think I’m hooked.

My beautiful mommy and I.  Don’t mind the glue gun.
I loved my makeup and will be calling on her again.  I loved our dresses.  The coral color complimented everyone’s skin color.  What we didn’t love were how uncomfortable our shoes were.  But beauty is pain right?  Anyways, the wedding was simply beautiful and we all teared up during the ceremony.

    Don’t we look gorgeous?!

The reception was a blast.  We had some laughs, danced till our feet hurt and enjoyed a lovely dinner.  It was just great watching as both families came together and really bonded.  I’m looking forward to bigger and better family gatherings in the future.  I always thought of the bride as family and now she really is family!  Amazing how God works!
Yesterday, I missed church because I was beyond tired from all my dancing and celebrating.  We slept in for the first time in ages.  The Mr decided to treat us for dinner and grilled some hot dogs and his famous Ranch burgers!  The burgers were was sooooo good.  His Ranch burgers are favorite with my side of the family.  Any time we come down for cookouts they’re always trying to talk him into making them.
There was another highlight to our weekend too.  I found out my younger sister and her husband are expecting again!  We’re all super excited about this blessing.  We loss my niece this past February and are overjoyed that God has given them a second chance and parenting.  I know that they’re both a little worried and scared this time around considering all that happened with Baby Hayden, but I know God has a plan in this.  I can’t wait to find out if I’m going to have another niece or a nephew.  Maybe both!

  • Thankful Thursday

Hello out there.  I’m back from my mini hiatus!  I’m sorry to have gone missing in action on you all but I was handling some personal issues.  Anyways, things aren’t perfect but they’re better and I can get back to focusing on blogging and connecting with you all.  So, better way to kick off my return than with Thankful Thursday?!
Where to start….  Well, I’m thankful for the readers who have stuck around and took the time out to check on me.  It means a lot to know that I was being thought of.  I’m also thankful that I got to spend some time with my family back in my hometown.  As of late, I’ve been really missing us all not being together on a regular basis.
We’re getting older and more of us are starting families.  I want to make sure that we strive to maintain our closeness.  I’m thankful that my baby brother had a wonderful 22nd birthday!  While I was at my mom’s we threw him a birthday party and got to meet his current girlfriend.  I like her and could tell that she genuinely cares for my brother.
Plus, she can hold her own.  And in a family like mine that’s a good thing because they can be a bit in your face and all in your business.  They speak their minds and some of them have no filters. I think that as we get to see her more and she gets to hang out with us more our bond will get stronger.  And she didn’t mind answering the tough questions like how she’d deal with her family or friends not approving of her dating outside of her race. (She’s not Black.)
She said that she’s already let it be known that she’s with my brother and anybody who doesn’t like it can kick rocks!  She got major kudos from me for that.  Even though it’s 2012 and our president is mixed, there are still a lot of ignorant people out there that don’t approve of interracial dating.  I wish her and my brother the best and pray that God protects them from people whose minds have yet to catch up with the times and whose hearts aren’t so pure or godly.
I’m thankful that I got the chance to relax and destress.  I was seriously getting to a point where I was feeling incredibly overwhelmed.  I wanted to shut everything and everyone out.  I’m not ashamed to say that I felt like I was falling into barrel of severe depression.  And my mom saw it and called me on it.
Likewise, I was able to be there for my mom.  She’s not getting any younger and as of late she’s been going through some ups and downs with her health.  So, it felt good to be there to help her feel better, cook, clean and just take care of her.  I love my mom so much and she’s such a strong force in my life that I don’t know what I do without her right now.  She wasn’t 100% when I left but I feel comfortable that we’ll get her back on track in no time.
I’m thankful for my wonderful husband.  I was on the go for three weeks and he was such a great sport about it.  I love that he understands that my family is important to me and doesn’t trip about me up and going when they need me.  And while we’re on the subject of the Mr, I have got to up my fitness game and get these last few pounds off.  My love dropped over 15 pounds while I was away!
He’s looking even better and feeling better!  I’m happy and proud because this is something he did for himself and his health.  He wants to be around for a long time.  I do too. So, I’m going to make the effort to work out more and continue on my healthy eating track.  I did get off track with drinking my water but I’m starting back today.  Trying to get at least a half gallon down before bedtime.
I’m also thankful that the DNC is being held here in my backyard!  This is such a historical moment for my generation and my kids.  Plus, this has greatly helped with jobs and boosting our local economy.  Regardless of what party you’re on Charlotte as a whole has benefited from this event being held here.  And don’t forget to get registered to vote if you’re not registered!  Don’t buy into that lie that your vote doesn’t count because it does!!
What are you all thankful for?
