  • Thankful Thursday

A lot has happened since my last Thankful Thursday post.  There was the shooting at Sandy Hooks Elementary School last Friday.  I can’t tell you all how much my heart still aches for that community.  However, I am thankful to see so many Americans and strangers reaching out to comfort and financially assist Newtown as they try to recover and rebuild from this tragedy.
I’m thankful that there were survivors.  It could have been worst.  I keep thinking to the year I quit teaching.  One of the students at an elementary school in our district had planned to blow up his school.  He had a plan laid out, a few bombs already made and more supplies had been shipped to his house to make more.  When I think about how close that young boy came to killing everyone in that school, it makes me shutter.  So, that’s why I say that I’m thankful for there were survivors in the Sandy Hooks tragedy.
I’m thankful that I lived to see my 27th birthday!  Again life is so precious.  I pray to see 27 more.  I’m thankful that I got to celebrate it with the people that I love the most.  Moo really made my day when she asked if we could just celebrate my birthday all week.  Then she told me I was the “bestest mommy in the whole wide world.”
Talk about making my heart melt and tears come to my eyes.  I’m so thankful that I’m raising a very loving child.  Her compassion knows no boundaries.  I hope that she will keep this trait and spread joy and love wherever she goes.  I’m thankful that JJ is continuing to make grow and develop.
He is turning into quite the fearless little man.  He doesn’t mind climbing up on anything or sticking his hands in dark places.  He’s learning new words.  His favorite right now is cup.  He enjoys giving out kisses and hugs.
I’m thankful that Christmas is almost here!!  All gifts have been purchased.  Nothing left to do except tackle the dinner shopping and add a few things to everyone’s stockings.  There’s some stuff on sale already in my area.  So, I’m thankful that I’ll be able to catch some good deals.
I’m thankful for my continued relationship with some of the brands that I’ve been working with throughout the year.  It means a lot when a brand repeated comes back and offers me the opportunity to work or partner with them.  I’m thankful for my loyal blog supporters and readers.  I’ve made so many wonderful friends.
I’m just thankful to have so much to be thankful for.  I am blessed.  Through the good times and the not so good times, I am still blessed and still have much to be thankful for.  Again thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes!
  • 27: A Year Of Change

Oh year 27, how nice to see you!  Another birthday is here and almost gone.  I’m very thankful and blessed. I hope to be just as blessed to see another 27 years.  I kept things low key and to a minimum.  I’ve never been one to need all the hoopla.  Plus, I stayed up late putting Moo to sleep only to have JJ wake up to nurse at 5:30 and then he woke again at 6:00 with a stuffy nose and stayed up.

So, by the time the Mr got home, I just wanted to crash and go back to sleep.  And I got to do just that.  Moo slept in until after 10.  The Mr played with JJ for a few minutes before he went to get a quick nap.  That tired my little guy out and he fell asleep until after 11.  I’m telling you that was the best nap I ever got!
We then headed out to enjoy a little shopping.  We went grocery shopping first and then I went to hunt down some Jolly Ranchers candy canes and scope out some stocking stuffers for the kiddies.  I found neither.  So, next up on the list was dinner.  Again, I didn’t want anything fancy.  So, we settled on wings.  And they were delicious!
I had no idea it had been so long since I had eaten wings, but it has been months.  I also treated myself to nice caffeinated Root Beer.  I hope I won’t end up regretting it.  And if you’ve found me on Instagram, you know I got my Twizzlers fix too.
I did a little reflecting and have decided that I want to make year 27 about change.  I want to change the people I hang around and welcome into my life.  I want to change some of things about my parenting style.  I want to become a better spouse.  I want to become more involved in the church and community.
They’ll be changes here on the blog.  I’ve already changed my hair by cutting it again.  There just comes a time when you realize what you’ve been doing has gotten old and isn’t working. So, you change or tweet a few things and start again.  You start to realize what you deserve and it’s not at all what you’ve settled for.
I’m going continuing to go after the things I deserve.  This time I have a fresh perspective and a more determined spirit.  I’m happy to report this year that I’ve marked a few things off my List of Adventures to Accomplish by 12/19/15.  For example, I’ve written and published a book and expanded YUMMommy  (YouTube & Instagram).  I’ve also exercised more.  I started off 2012 in size 16/14 and I’m proud to say that I’m now size 8/6!
So here’s an updated version of what’s still left to accomplish.  Like last year, I’ve made revisions because I’ve changed, situations have changed and so forth.  Yes, things have come off but I’ve also added a few to kind of take their place.

  • Manicure Monday: Toad-ally Amazing

So, I’m really in the hang of painting my nails now.  Even the Mr is noticing.  This week I decided to try out Toad-ally Amazing from Wet & Wild’s Spoiled collection.  I’ve had this polish for almost a year and this is my first time using it on my own nails.  I painted Moo’s nails with it twice.

Overall, I like the color.  I reminds me of a sea foam green with a hint of blue.  There’s also some shimmer or very fine glitter in it.  So, your nails sparkle really nice in the lights.  You will definitely need to do at least two coats.  In fact, my only complaint about this polish is that it’s really thin.  I did two coats and some of my nails still had a few thin spots but I didn’t have time to add a third coat.
It’s done really well on chipping.  Today is Day 3 and there’s a little chipping, but I do wash my hands a lot with hot water.  Also, I handwash my dishes.  So, that’s contributed to the chipping too.  But I’ve been hearing a lot of wonderful things about those gel polish top coats.  I might visit my CVS and see if I can find one.  That might help to preserve my manicures longer.
But this is a nice polish to have.  It dries glossy and feels really smooth.  I think I purchased this from Dollar General for a $1.  So, it’s inexpensive.  And speaking of Dollar General, they do carry Wet & Wild and have a great selection.  You can find of the funkier and out of the box colors there.  They have a neon yellow that glows in the dark that I’m wanting to try out when Spring gets here.  Be sure to head over to Lipgloss & Binky to link up!
  • Stay Cozy With Old Navy

The first official day of winter is almost here.  The weather outside is already cold and nippy. So, what better way to stay warm and cozy than with a nice warm sweater or cardi from Old Navy?!  You all know that I love some Old Navy!  Sadly, I wasn’t able to make it to the store in time to use my coupon because I got it late and the car was in the shop.

No worries though, I have no issues with spending my cash money at Old Navy, they’re worth it.  On my second attempt to visit Old Navy my phone died. So, no cute instore pics of Moo enjoying the mannequins this time.  However, I did find her some cute stuff on clearance.  They’ll make great gifts if you’re still finishing up your holiday shopping too!
    Women’s Multi-Patterned Crew Sweater-Heather Charcoal
I love crew sweaters and had planned on using my coupon to get this lovely beauty, but my store didn’t have it in stock. Bummer.  But what I like about this sweater are the colors.  They’re not traditional winter or holiday colors which means I can wear this before and after Christmas.  I also like the thickness.  I like to be nice and toasty. A great gift for the young and older.
    Women’s Faux-Suede Sherpa-Trim Boots-  Dark Brown
How cute are these?  Gotta keep the feet warm too right?  Thinking about leaving a stick it note on Santa’s wallet and hoping these can make a magical appearance under the tree before Christmas gets here.
Women’s Softest Blanket-Wrap Cardi- Graphite Heather
Aside from sweaters, I also love staying cozy with wrap cardis!  My baby sister introduced me to these and now I’m hooked.  You can add a belt to give it more pop or to hold it close in the front.  Love these!!
    Men’s Fair Isle Zip-Front Cardigan
I’m debating on whether to go back and pick this up for the Mr.  He’s a sweater guy but I’m trying to get him to try new things when it comes to his fashions.  I could see this paired with a nice plaid button up.
    Men’s Everyday Classic Slim-Fit Shirt- White/Red Plaid
Maybe, pairing that cardigan with something like this?  I’ve never ever seen him in a plaid shirt.  So, I’m thinking hard on getting him one.  There’s just something sexy about a guy in plaid.  Tasteful plaid that is.
    Hooded Flannel Shirt-Blue Plaid
How cute would JJ look in that?  I’m finally getting used to having a little man to dress.  And he actually enjoys being dressed which is a change from Moo when she was his age.
    Girls Mixed-Stripe Sweater Dress-Cyclamen  Stripe
Isn’t this the cutest little sweater dress.  I could so see Moo in this with a white tights and some red or black booties.  I’ve got it in my virtual cart because it wasn’t at my store.  There’s another Old Navy close by and I want to check and see if they have it to make sure it’s here for Christmas. Can’t wait!!
I hope that you will check out Old Navy!  They really do have some amazing winter wear and a little something for everybody on your gift list.  Plus, the prices are hard to beat.  Happy Holidays and Happy Shopping

  • Gift Shopping With EdenFantasys

Can you guys believe that Christmas is less than two weeks away?!!  No worries if you still have some shopping to do.  EdenFantasys is here to help.  Whether you’re looking for something to go under the tree or stocking stuffers, they have you covered.  Check out my top gift ideas below.

    Merker One Shoulder Dress-Purple

This is a great gift for the hot mamas out there.  Who says that just because you’ve given birth to a kid or two or three that you can’t still turn up glam and the sexy sometimes?  What I like about this dress is the front draping.  The way that sash goes across from the right hip to the left shoulder just adds that extra va va voom to it.  Not to mention if you still have just little bit of midsection self it’s slightly hidden from view with the placement of the sash.

And you can see from the photo that you don’t have to go all out with accessories to get noticed in this dress.   Add a couple of bangles, some studs and maybe a ring or two and black pumps.  If you’re more of conservative hot mama then you can still add a blazer on top.

    Monet Rollerball Eyeshadow Set

Have a makeup fiend on your hands?  Well, I’m sure they will appreciate this eyeshadow set.  It’s not your average eyeshadow.  These actually roll out onto the eyelid.  Then you simply use your fingertips or a blending brush to blend them in.  Great stocking stuffer for sure.

    It’s A Slice Bath & Shower Duo

Another great stocking stuffer is this shower gel and lotion set.  I’m absolutely obsessed with bath products.  And Cake makes some great products.  Be sure to check out their brown sugar body scrubs too!

Not a fan of shopping the first place?  Well, no problem.  Gift cards are always a great option as well.  You can stick them in stockings or get one of those cute little gift card boxes and nestle it under the tree!

If you choose to shop with EdenFantasys, they’ll be offering FREE standard shipping, FREE 2nd shipping on orders $90 or more and FREE next day shipping on orders $120 or more from December 17th to December 21st

  • Monsters Among Us

    Source: ABCNews.com
Imagine waking up this Friday morning and you get your kids ready for school as usual.  You help them pick out their outfit, make them breakfast, help them brush their teeth and then you either stand with them at the bus stop or drop them off to school.  Or maybe, you don’t have kids.  Imagine your spouse is a teacher or school administrator.  You kiss them good-bye and wish them a good day at work.  Never in your wildest dreams do you think this will be the last time you’ll get to see them alive.
Well, for many folks that’s exactly what happened today.  Around 9:30 this morning, two gunmen decided that they would vent their frustrations out on the staff and innocent children at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.  One gunman entered his child’s kindergarten class and just opened fire on the class. I shiver thinking about how shocked and scared the teacher must have looked when she saw this man wearing 4 guns and bullet proof vest entering her classroom.  Did she scream? Did she run to cover kids using her body as a human shield?
Then I think about those poor kids.  Did they even know what was happening?  When they first saw him enter their classroom did they think his guns were real or did they think he was playing dress up?  (When I was younger the police would dress up and bring in fake guns to talk to us about gun safety and saying no to violence.)  And then my heart breaks as I wonder how many of those little darlings ran and hid under desks or chairs to escape the spray of bullets.
Y’all, I used to work in a school.  And hearing about this shooting and seeing the scene unfold on tv just made me cry.  I loved all of my former students just like they were my own children.  I couldn’t imagine some monster coming into my classroom with guns and shooting at us.  Like this hits close to home for me on so many levels.
Then, hearing account from an actual Sandy Hook student about how they heard one of office personnel try to make an announcement over the intercom  and then to hear her scream followed by gun shoots, from the second gunman I’m assuming, and then the intercom goes silent just….  I don’t even have words.
When this story first broke, they were reporting the first shooter to be one of the students since the gunman was inside the classroom.  But as it turns out, the gunman wasn’t a child but the parent of a child.  I felt a little relief because the thought of thinking that a kindergartner could have such rage or evil inside themselves to plan an attack on their classroom was just blowing my mind!!  But that relief was short lived.
Like what kind of monster parent do you have to be that if your child is having issues with the school, you can’t go through the chain of command to get it fixed?  How hard could it have been to request a conference with the teacher, talk with the principal, connect the school board or even make a statement to the local news station if what happened was so extreme and horrible that you felt the need to shoot up the school and then enlist the help of a friend or fellow parent.   And even more confusing is how do you talk another parent or friend into helping you kill KIDS?!!!
I don’t condone violence of any kind, but if you have a problem with me as a teacher or feel I’ve wronged your child to the point of driving you to kill, then I’d rather you just kill me and leave the kids alone.  Kids should be off limits for anything negative-killing, robbing, bullying, etc.  I know the world isn’t perfect and crimes are going to happen, but why do these grown people have to go after the kids?!!
It takes a cold, unfeeling, walking dead monster to do such a thing.  I can’t even call people who hurt and kill kids human beings.  You can’t be human and look into the terrified eyes of a child, crying and screaming and trying to run from you and still shoot them.  You just can’t!  Schools are suppose to be sort of a home from home, but how can students feel safe and protected when you have things like this that happen?
And let me just say that the fact that these gunmen were young (18-25ish) is just going to further the stereotypes and stigma associated with young parents.  I’ve already seen a few tweets about the fact that the first gunman being a young parent played a parent in his decision.  As a young parent, I don’t believe that’s true.  Any parent has stress when they have kids.  And yea, maybe your stress is a little stronger, but at the end of the day you’re still an adult.
It’s still your job to behave and conduct yourself as such.  And a true adult does not do what these men did today.  I refuse to let accept any excuse that is made for these two doing what they did.  There is none that would be acceptable in my book.
Folks, hug, kiss and tell your children and loved ones that you love them.  More importantly pray for the families in Newtown.  They are going to need a miracle to recover from this tragic event.  If you’re close by or know someone directly affected, just be there for them.  Cook meals, hold hands, give hugs, or offer a shoulder.
Then pray for these monsters that hide among us.  Pray that they never come in contact with our loved ones. Pray that police catch the gunmen who is still on the loose.  Pray that justice is served.  The violence and killing of innocent people has to STOP!!
  • Thankful Thursday

Happy Thankful Thursday everyone!  I’m this post from my front porch as I watch the kiddies play.  The weather is a bit cool and windy but still a good day to be outside.  The cabin fever was starting to set in.  And we don’t do the playground in the winter since Moo is allergic to the flu shot.
I’m thankful to just have this opportunity to be out here surrounded by such beauty.  I’m thankful that we live in such a lovely neighborhood.  I’m thankful for these wonderful moment in my motherhood journey where I get to just it back and observe my kids in there elements.  I can snap candids for the scrapbook and just enjoy their laughter as they dig in the dirt.
I’m thankful that birthday will be here next week.  I know people get freaked out about becoming older but not me.  Each year brings new lessons, great memories and better accomplishments.  I’m looking forward to celebrating with the kids and the Mr.  And to make it even sweeter, I just got invited to a private movie screening.  So looks like we can save a few bucks ($21 to be exact) on the movie we were going to go see. And the movie we will be seeing is one that I wanted to see anyway. God is good yall!
I’m thankful that I’ve been making progress on my novel.  Being a published author is something I’ve dreamed about since I was child.  I’m beyond nervous because this book is like my third baby.  And while I feel great about what I’m writing, when it comes to creative things like books, fashion, movies, etc not everyone always loves it.  But I’m determined to persevere.
Now this is going to sound crazy, but I’m thankful for the Angus CBO from McDonald’s.  Yes, I am totally addicted to those things.  Why?  Well, it combines four of my favorite foods.  I live for a good juicy burger.  I enjoy cheese to the highest.  Bands don’t make me dance, but bacon will! LOL.  And I can’t live without onions.
    Source: McDonald’s
    Source: McDonald’s
I can’t even tell you how many CBOs I’ve had since they’ve been introduced.  I really wish that tMcDonald’s would make them a staple on the their menu.  I’ve even gotten the Mr hooked on the Premium Chicken CBO.  I think he thought I was nuts when I told him how good they were.  I know people say you shouldn’t love food and that you should eat to live, but I love food.  I live for a good eats.
What are you thankful for this week?

  • Let It Snow

I know that I’ve been missing in action a little bit, but you guys know life happens.  I’ve been spending time with the kids and keeping a closer eye on JJ.  He’s back to terrorizing the tree and almost knocked the star off yesterday.  Plus, he’s gotten the grand idea that the wall makes a much better canvas for his scribblings than paper does.  Thank goodness for those Magic Erasers!
I’ve also been working on my novel.  I actually scrapped the first draft.  Crazy I know since I had been working on it since before this past summer.  However, I just wasn’t feeling it.  But I’m really happy with what I’ve written recently and can’t wait to have it finished.
    Source: Microsoft ClipArt
And when I haven’t been busy, I’ve been outside checking for snow clouds.  Yes, I’m dreaming of a white Christmas.  I’m a winter baby.  I’m totally obsessed with snow.  I’ve been checking out snow pics from some other bloggers and hoping that we’ll be lucky and get some this year.
JJ is finally old enough to out in it and have some fun.  Winter just isn’t complete without a light dusting those magical white flakes.  So, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that my wish will be heard.  If it doesn’t snow for Christmas or birthday, I’ll settle for a New Year’s flurry.
Are you dreaming of a White Christmas?
  • Manicure Monday

I’m linking up again for Manicure Monday with LA Lynn’s and Lipgloss & Binky.  I’ve been over two weeks without my biting nails and decided that keeping them polished would help to further kick that bad habit.

I’ve always been a fan of the color red.  So, when I saw this lovely  Ruby Pumps by China Glaze at Sally’s, I knew that I had to have it.  Plus, with the holiday season being upon us, this is the perfect festive color.  It has tons of glitter which help it to sparkle and catch the light.
So if you’re a fan of reds but don’t want to go too red, I recommend this Ruby Pumps.  You will have to use two coats because one coat will be too thin.  I did have a little bit of chipping on the second day but that’s because I was handwashing dishes and a lot of other stuff that’s tough on nails.  Put, I think a clear gel top coat will help it to last longer.
  • The Ultimate Birthday Gift

My birthday is almost here.  I’ve been counting down the days.  Now, I don’t ask for much.  I think that I’m pretty simple person to please.  However, if I had to name my ultimate birthday gift it would be this beauty below.
I’ve been obsessed with the Bentley Continental GT for forever.  This car just screams luxury for me.  I’d love to deck it out by creating a custom paint color.  Something with a hint a purple and a little glitter.  One the inside I would mind having purple leather seats with pink monogramming and stitching!
If money were no object, what would your ultimate birthday gift be?
