  • Thankful Thursday

Happy Thankful Thursday!  I’m moving slow today because I am feeling under the weather.  My wisdom tooth has come in and my gum is swollen.  I’ve never had this issue before.  Usually it comes and goes without any pain or extreme discomfort but not this time.
Also, I’m already anemic, but my iron level has dropped even more.  I just feel it and so I’m going to be working on getting that back up because I don’t want to end up in the hospital.  So, I have been taking it easy and trying figure out when would be the right time to schedule an appointment to have this wisdom tooth removed.  The Mr would have to take vacation time to watch the kids because the pain meds are sure to keep me out.  I’m a light weight when it comes to medication.
I’m thankful that the kids slept in today.  No 4, 5 or 6 AM wake up call from Moo or JJ this morning.  Sadly, I’m so  used them waking me early that I ended waking up still.  It took a while before I was able to go back to sleep, but I did and boy was that sleep good.  They slept in until 11, which is like unheard of.  The closest they’ve come to that was Christmas morning when they didn’t get up until 10.
I’m thankful that JJ had another great week in speech therapy.  His relationship with his therapist now is like night and day compared to how he first reacted to her.  I’m kind of sad because Monday, we meet with another therapist since he’ll be transitioning in May to a therapist sponsored by the school district.  I’m just hoping that this initial meeting goes.  I’m also hoping that we won’t have to start back from square one.
I’m thankful for educational tv shows because that’s what has been keeping the kiddies occupied.  I can’t wait to be back at 100%.   Being sick is not my thing because it before all is said and done, it always turns into something else.  I’m very thankful for my library.
They now have overdrive and I check out ebooks as opposed to always having to one of the branches.  They’ve also partnered with Treehouse to teach html and coding online and show us how to build a website from scratch.  And it’s FREE-99.  Y’all know I love free and I’ve been working on trying to learn coding and html.  This is why I enjoy living in the city.
There are so many free classes and sessions offered by the libraries here.  I’m thankful that these last few days, the weather has been kind of nice.  I’m Spring will get here soon.  I’m thankful that I got asked to participate in nice campaign with a sweet giveaway that I think you all will love.  I don’t want to giveaway too much, but a gift card will be part of the prize pack.  You’ll have to wait and keep checking back to see how much and what store it will be to though.  Hope to see y’all around.
    What’s on your thankful list?

  • 4 fruitwater® Cocktails To Sweeten Your Valentine’s Day

Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post.  Coca-Cola shared these recipes with me and I thought I’d pass them along to my readers.  Feel free to make any adjustments for your taste preference.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and let’s face it not everyone can go out to celebrate.  Maybe, you don’t have babysitter or your significant other will be too tired when they get off work to head back out for a night on the town.  Well, here’s an idea, why not have your own intimate dinner setup at home?  Feed the kids and put them to bed and then enjoy some adult time with your boo.  And my dear friends at Coca-Cola are here to help with those plans by sharing some awesome and easy to make cocktails that you can wow your honey with before, during and after dinner.

If I could give one tip for the Bramble, it would be to freeze or chill the blackberries.  It’ll help with keeping the drink cool.  Plus, berries tend to get a little mushy when they’re out in the open too long.

Don’t feel like pulling out the grill, no problem just continue on with the recipe.

Remember, a little pinch goes a long way.  Don’t over do it with the chipotle.

    Enjoy and happy drink mixing!

  • 3 Valentine’s Day And Date Night Outfits That Wow

Disclosure: Please note this is not a sponsored post.  However, it does contain affiliate links.
Valentine’s Day and the 9 anniversary of when the Mr and I started going steady are both right around the corner.  So, I decided to put together three inspiration boards for Valentine’s Day and date night outfits that I’m sure will wow.  I’m definitely one of those women who likes to seize every special occasion as an opportunity to dress up or put on ‘adult clothes’ as Moo calls it. LOL.

    Make Me Blush

So, I titled this look Make Me Blush because the shoes, dress and earrings are all similar shades of the color blush.  The dress is made EShakti and you all know how much I love them.  I’ve reviewed three of their dresses here on the blog already and have nothing but great things to say about them.  With that said, I love the detailed lace overlay and the faux sweetheart bodice
When it comes to shoes, you can never go wrong with a pair of Steve Madden.  I got hooked on Maddens when I was in college and did an internship at a local mall.  And how cute are the earrings and lingerie?!

    Lady In Red

Red has always been a color that I’ve been fond of wearing.  I like to refer to it as my power color.  Also, as much as I’ve started to enjoy dresses and skirts, I’m still very much a pants kind of girl.  So, a jumper is the perfect choice for a night date or Valentine’s day.  I love that this one comes with a matching belt.
I chose the G2 lingerie set because it’s more grown up and mature.  And it’s very affordable.  I like Victoria’s Secret just as much as the next gal, but shopping Vicki S all the time can do a number on your wallet.  I like to explore and check out more affordable brands.  The jewelry adds a little more hint of chic and the shoes add a pop of animal print.  Plus, Calvin Klein makes great everything.
I’ve never regretted anything I’ve invested in from CK.  They have  really good quality and if you’re like me and keep an eye out for sales are purchase CK from eBay or Amazon, you don’t have to worry about breaking the bank on designer shoes.

    Egyptian Orange

I mentioned a while back that orange has been named the It color for this Spring.  And of course, there’s no denying that this Egyptian inspired fitted dress is amazing.  It will fit your body like a glove.  Who says shapewear has to be boring and unattractive.  The lace detail on the cups of the Yummie Tummie slip makes feel a little less like shapewear   After all, feeling confident and sexy in what we have under our clothing is just as important as feeling sexy and confident the pieces people see from the outside.
What are your inspirations for date night and/or Valentine’s Day outfits? Do you keep it simple or go all out?

  • Thankful Thursday

Well, our snow came and went.  I’m sad to see it go, but at least we don’t have to worry about icy roads.  The Mr was actually iced in at work yesterday for a few until the roads got scraped and salted again.  I’m thankful that he was able to make it home safely.  I wish the same could have been said for a few of my friends and loved ones in Atlanta.  A few of them ended stranded on the highway for over 10 hours and had to sleep in their cars overnight.
I can’t even imagine being stranded in my car in frigid temperatures, with no bathroom, no food, no water.  And to think that there were people with kids-toddlers and infants- who were stranded just clutches at my heartstrings.  I’m the hoping the next snow that comes along, everyone is better prepared.
I’m thankful that Monday was a great therapy session day for JJ.  I feel like the sun is about to come out.  He’s finally used to his therapist and the sight of her no longer makes him cry.  He said three words on Monday that we could clearly make out-hand, car and cup without being prompted.   So, my plan is that we’ll continue to go over those words to help him get more comfortable saying them and verbalizing himself.
Thank to everyone who continues to pray for us as we travel along this journey.  Thank you for your words of encouragement and for sharing your own stories of dealing with a child who has delayed speech and/or sensory overload.  It’s nice to not feel so alone.
Next month marks 9 years since the day that Mr and I first met.  We’ve had our series of highs and lows, but I’m thankful for perseverance and new beginnings.  I really am excited to be spending the rest of my life with him.  I’m grateful for his support and letting me be me.  Love you babe!
What’s on your gratitude list this week?

  • A Wish Come True

Today my wish came true.  It’s snowing!!  I was sure that is was going to be like the last few times we had snow and melt before it hit the ground, but when the Mr opened the door to leave for work, he told me that is was snowing.  I went to look and sure enough it was.
Still though, I was skeptical that it would last long.  We’ve had “snow” three times already.  None of it stuck to the ground.  So, I went about my business.  Moo kept asking if we could look out and see the snow.  I finally caved in, curious myself to see if was in fact still snowing.  I didn’t want to get my hopes up.  So, to the front the door we went.  And……

Looks like it’s sticking folks!!  We haven’t looked outside since I took this picture, but I’m hoping we have nice amount on the ground in the morning.  On a sad note the Mr might be stuck at work. 🙁   At least he’ll be safe.  I don’t want him out there slipping and sliding on the roads.  This snow was just what I needed today to cheer me up after getting some potentially bad news.  I’ll wait until I have more information and share that story at a later day, but let’s just say I’ve learned a valuable lesson.
Are you getting snow in your area?

  • 3 Fresh Beat Band Songs That Rock And Inspire

Sometimes inspiration can come to us from the most unlikely places.  Being a SAHM/WAHM, I see my share of kids’ shows.  I have to admit that I am personally a fan of Nick Jr.  One show that I have found to be very inspiring not only to the kiddies but to me as well as is the Fresh Beat Band.  They’re all about teaching kids how to work together, the importance of friendship, and never giving up on their dreams.  Here are three Fresh Beat Band songs that have been inspiring to me.

    I Can Do Anything

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TrGttTXsJk]

With lyrics like ” You can do anything you put your mind to,” this song is by far very uplifting.  It reminds me of the story of The Little Engine That Could.  As some of you frequent readers may know, I’ve been working on my first fiction novel and recently just another nonfiction book as well.  Earlier this month, I had big case of the downs and felt like throwing in the towel on my novel.  In my mind, I was telling mysreamself that I couldn’t do it and that people would forever see me as just that mom who blogs and not an author.
But I didn’t quit.  Why?  Because to quote more lyrics from the Fresh Beats, “I believe, I believe it’s true; I can do anything I want to do.”  And finishing my novel and publishing it is what I want to do and what I’m going to do!

    Reach For The Sky

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsxsiD7l_ZY]

We’ve all heard that when it comes to success and achieving our dreams that the sky is the limit.  That saying makes the lyrics to this song so much more befitting:
Reach for the sky.  Show everybody what we can do.  It’s our time to shine.  Just take a chance and believe in you.  The music’s contagious, this feeling’s outrageous.  We’re making our dreams come true.  Hold your hopes high.  Reach for the sky.

I reached for the sky when I wrote my post about how I wanted to live an abundant lifestyle financially, spiritually, emotionally and family-wise.  I got great feedback and lots of encouragement.  However, not everyone saw my reaching for the sky as a positive thing and they decided to tweet about and talk about on it on social media.  I honestly, think said person forgot that I was following him/her.

But at the end of the day, a naysayer and unbeliever isn’t going to stop my show.  To quote a not so kid friendly song by The Game and 50, “Hate it or love it, the underdog’s on top.  And I’m gonna shine homie until my heart stops.”  I’ve reached for the sky and now it’s time for me to soar!

    Another Perfect Day

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUbI1wbAAio]

“Just another perfect day. Bring it on ’cause I’m on my way.  I’ve got a laugh to share.  I’ve a dream to chase.  Always something new to learn.  Can’t wait to take my turn. Gonna turn it up ’cause it’s another perfect, perfect day.”

The Fresh Beats have helped me to realize that everyday is already perfect.  Not because everything went right but because I’m simply alive.  Everyday, I wake up is another day to chase my dreams, accomplish my goals, learn something different and enjoy my loved ones.  My turn is now and I’m making the vow to myself to turn it up everyday.

It’s time to turn up to my maximum potential as mom, wife and businesswoman.  Dreams don’t work unless I do.  So, I’m seizing every perfect day as a day to move up a notch and get closer to where I know I’m meant to be and to help my family do the same.

What songs have inspired you and/or your family?

  • Fashionable Friday

Yes, y’all, 5 On Friday is out and Fashionable Friday is in!  I just thought it was time to switch it up a little bit.  I’ve mentioned on here that I wanted to get back to talking more about fashion here on YUMMommy and that is just what I intend to do.  I don’t claim to be THE expert, but I do hold a fashion degree, used to work in retail and did meet and interview a few famous designers as well as enjoyed tours of their New York showrooms.  Does the name Shelli Segal ring any bells?
Anyways, I thought I’d kick off this first Fashionable Friday with a little walk down memory lane of some of the fashions I’ve worn over the years.  I’m telling y’all some of looking at all these photos took me back.  Let’s do this.

Caught off guard strolling the streets of New York.  I had just left my first H&M and I was hooked.  See those red shades hanging from my necklace?  Yep, I got the last pair and wore them the reminder of my trip.  We it came to accessories, I wasn’t a fan of wearing chunky or statement jewelry.  For starters, my wrists are the size of an 8 year old’s.

So, I stuck to tennis and chain link bracelets like the one you see on my arm in this picture.  I mean have you seen the chunky bracelets they make for kids?  My wardrobe did consist of a lot of black and lot of lace tops or tops with lace detailing.

My baby sister snapped this picture of me while I was home for a visit, enjoying a nice Spring afternoon at the park with my niece.  I’ve always been a fan of colored pants.  And yes, I usually layered my tops so that I could coordinate without it being too matchy.  Orange on orange just would have been too much without the black deep v-neck, sleeveless vest to break it up.  The large, thin, colored hoop earrings were really in and had a pair in just about every color in addition to the hot pink ones I’m wearing here.

When I wasn’t on bedrest, I was determined to look my best during my pregnancy with Moo.  I didn’t get out or to formal event often.  But when I did, I made sure the bump looked good.  It was the dead of Winter, but I was determined to wear something cheery and to put on some cute heels.  I found this formal number and Belk and had to have it.

I can’t remember if my throng heel sandals were Nine West or Aldo’s.  Either way, after 6 hours in them and the weight from my belly weighing me down, I do remember my feet were killing me.  I had the Mr throw those shoes to back of the closet where they stayed until after I gave birth.

Can you guys believe this picture was taken just a few months before I got pregnant.  Oh to have that body back would be a dream come true.  This sassy little black dress was from Bebe.  It could be worn as halter with the detachable spaghetti strap like I’m wearing it in the picture or you could go strapless for nice clean look up top.  It fit like a glove and was one of the few dresses I owned that wasn’t a mini.

Again, I kept the accessories to a minimum.  The necklace I’m wearing here an guardian angel that my Ma (aunt) gave me in junior high school.  I wore it religiously and only took it off to shower.  I still have it to this day.  Now that she’s no longer with us, it’s a nice reminder that she’s always watching over me and the family.  When I need to feel close to her, I hold the little angel charm in the palm of my hand.

Loose tops and wide legged stretch pants were a stable for me when I was wearing dresses or pajamas during my pregnancy with Moo as well.  Can you guys believe that I was only 5 months in this picture?!  I think my belly was huge for 5 months compared to other pregnant women, but of course we found out that was due the fibroids.

Another thing I liked to do during my pregnancy was color blocking.  My top, bottom and shoes were always different colors but complimented each other.

There you have it folks.  When it comes to clothing I like to be comfortable, but put together.  I keep my accessories to minimum, I while do tend to gravitate toward neutrals, I’m not afraid to add pops of color.  Hopefully, this week I can snap a few pictures and show you guys what my wardrobe is like now that I’m a mom of two.  I think that you’d be surprised to some of the things in my closet.

So, what was your fashion sense like before you had kids and/or during pregnancy?

  • Thankful Thursday

For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.
Let me tell y’all, I feel like my joy is finally coming.  As I sat down to get started writing my Thankful Thursday post for today, this scripture (which has become more of a universal saying) came to my mind before my fingers even touched the keyboard.  And I just had to sit for a minute and let it mediate.  I have hands down done my share of weeping in the past six to eight months.  I’ve even voiced how I felt as if I was being punished for some horrible deed from my past that has since slipped my mind.
But sitting here right now…..sitting here in this very moment, I feel like His favor has been slowly turned my way and y’all I am grateful.  There just comes a point when everything seems to be crashing down that you wonder if you’ll ever be able to stop crying.  You wonder if you’ll ever see the light, the joy, peace.  And the answer is that if you’re patient long enough, you will.  My storms have taught me the importance of learning how to endure rain with patience.
Yes, we’re still battling JJ’s speech and sensory overload issues, but he another great day in therapy yesterday.  He was more vocal and proactive in trying to speak.  He used body language like shrugging his shoulders and throwing his hands out to the side palm up if he didn’t know something.  No meltdowns, no tears, no tantrums.  This is a pretty big turn around from where we were at the beginning of the month.
His therapist at one point just thought he flat out didn’t like her, but thank God that wasn’t the case.  I’m so thankful and grateful for the progress that he has made and will continue to make.  He doesn’t get nearly has frustrated as he used to.  As we continue to see him make achievements, I’m looking forward to integrating more therapy to help with his overload disorder.  It’s getting better as well and I’m thankful for that because he turns three soon and that only gives us a little under a year and a half to get him ready for preschool.
I’m thankful for my SITS Tribe and everyone who has been reaching out to me with kinds and support in terms of building up the YUMMommy brand as well as my other endeavors.  I’m so serious about that $30k.  To have all of you joining me on this journey and sticking around means more than I will ever be able to put into words.
I’m thankful for the courage to reach out to bigger brands and companies.  I’m thankful for the courage to reach out for help and to be able to admit that I want and NEED people to support me and to be able to tell them how to do that.  You have not, because you ask not.  And I realized that I’ve given to others when they asked and they were probably worried about if I would turn them down.  So, if I said yes, surely I can find people to say yes to me and help me get to what I need to continue to the next phase and step in my journey to success in all aspects of life (family, spiritual, business, etc).
I’m thankful for an amazing husband, who has really been a rock for me.  I’m grateful that he works so hard for us.  We’re coming up on 9 years and I thankful that we continued to fight for our relationship and that we took the plunge and turned it into a marriage.  I’m thankful that he doesn’t complain (much) about me hogging his computer since mine went on to computer heaven to blog and get assignments down.  He knows that I’m trying to build legacy not just for the moment but for the future.

Lastly, I’m thankful for this 30 Day Challenge that I’ve been doing.  It’s really helped to keep me focused on my goals and to motivate me.  Sometimes, we have to challenge ourselves, try something new and I am grateful for invitation that was given to me and that accepted.

What are you giving thanks for today?

Don’t forget if you do a Thankful Thursday or gratitude post, stop by and link it up on the FB page!

  • Meet My SITS Tribe

Hi y’all!  These last few days I have been on Cloud 9 in terms of blogging.  Why?  Well, a while back, I signed up for the SITS Girls Tribe Building Challenge.  It’s challenge in which we would be paired with bloggers from our niche and over this week, we have different tasks to complete.  Each task is meant to help us unite as tribe (or sisterhood) as well as to help us grow our brands and blogs.  Wasn’t this idea genius?!
Well, I am loving my tribe to the fullest.  I’ve seen some other bloggers talking (and complaining) about their tribes and I feel blessed that I have a group of such lovely ladies.  Everyone has been nothing short of super supportive, organized and helpful.  We’ve already reached out to each other with blogging and social media questions.  I am definitely in agreement with SITS motto that “The Secret To Success Is Support.”

The whole SITS community in general is very supportive as I’ve blogged about in the past.  If you’re a blogger and you have no clue what SITS is or who the SITS Girls are, then feel free to check them out here.

Anyways, I thought that I would introduce you all to my awesome tribe.

When it comes to Coffee Jitters, all I can say is wow.  Reading a little of Judy’s back posts, I found out that she has been through so much since starting her blog ten years ago.  She’s battled stage 3 cancer, infertility, gotten married and is now continuing to adjust to life after cancer.  She’s already such a trooper and inspiration in my eyes.
You guys already know my personal connection with cancer and how it’s affected my family with the death of my paternal grandmother and having witnesses several family members successfully beat it.  I admire Judy’s strength to blog about that part of her life in such an honest and open way.  I’ve never had breast cancer myself, but those who have will always have a special place in my heart for simple fact that I am at a higher risk of getting it based on my family history.  Her Parenting Rite of Passage had me giggling a little bit and feeling a little better about some of the things Moo and JJ continue to get into.

Heather’s blog Raising Memories says it all.  A lot of times as parents we find ourselves just coasting or going through the motions without taking the time to enjoy the moments that make up our lives and the lives of our family members.  I love that her blog is so colorful and cheery!  If tutorials, recipes and crafting are your thing then this is definitely the blog for you!

I was super excited when I saw that Allison was in my tribe. I have been following her blog Twingle Mommy for a little over two years now.  She’s a Vegas girl turned Carolina blogger.  She’s also had a battle with infertility and talks openly about having a child with special needs. With JJ’s speech issues and sensory overload disorder, I find Heather’s posts about her son’s journey with Cerebral  Palsy and how they’re combating it inspiring.
Rereading her post about having to explain why twins go to different schools has made it easier for me to deal with the questions and silent judgement that I’ve experienced.  I’ve been asked by strangers and family members things like “Why doesn’t he talk” or “Do you know what caused ‘it’,” which is pretty much their way of asking if JJ’s issues are my fault.  Twingle Mommy is also a great place to find recipes and read product reviews.
I’m not even sure why haven’t come across Natalie’s blog, Cosmos Mariners, by now.  We have so much in common.  For example, we’re both Carolina natives, moms, wives, and we’re both Team Coca Cola (she adores Diet Coke).  Also, we both have a great love and appreciation for books, work (or in my case worked) in the education field and we both love to travel and we both started blogging in 2010.
I’m looking to really get to know Natalie through her blog.  Cosmos Mariners is a wonderful collection of personal posts sprinkled with posts on DIYs, how-tos and more.

Lauren is another blogger after my own heart.  Two Washingtons started out as a way for her to keep family updated on the happenings with her and her husband after they traded Washington, D.C for Washington state.  See what she did there with the title?  Cute right?!  Anyways, Lauren also has a love for books like me and she’s a mommy of two as well as a wife.
But more importantly she’s a Patriots fan!!  Woohoo!  I know I might be a Carolina girl, but I wasn’t in raised in a Carolina household.  My parents were obsessed with the Dallas Cowboys and still are. However, once I started getting into professional football in high school, I quickly took on the New England Patriots as my team and I’ve been rocking with them ever since.  Speaking of which, Tom and I need to have a little chit chat.
Anyways, I’m looking forward to having someone to cheer with and help me trash talk our Pat haters next season via Twitter and FB.

Jellibean Journals is like a destination blog.  No, seriously, Jelli and her family live in the beautiful Costa Rica!  I used to dream about going there when I was in grade school.  And reading Jelli’s blog these last few days and reawaken that desire to visit.  Being the foodie and cooking mama that I am, I’ve already scoped out some her recipe posts.
Also, I love that she’s into being eco-friendly!  Y’all know that I’m all for being Green!  And Jelli talks opening about her faith, something that I finally took the plunge to do last year with my Bible 365 Challenge.

Reading Jenn’s blog Coolest Family on the Block has me going back to check out my arts & crafts bucket list.  There is some serious craft envy going on over here.  What I love about her blog is that it’s fun and resourceful.  She’s blogging about crafting, family life as well as giving us tutorials like how to add FB pages to an interest list on your account.
I’m looking forward to trying out a few the fun activities that she has documented on her blog with Moo and JJ.

Omg, Mel lives in my dream state, New York!  Y’all have no idea how many bloggers from NY that follow just so that I can live through them a little bit.  Her blog name pretty much sums up the same way I feel about my life on most days.  As a mom and a wife and brand owner, there is always something going on, something going wrong, etc.
Anyways, I’m really glad that Mel is a part of our tribe.  Her blog has already proven to be very helpful.  Like me, she’s really focused on achieving her goals.  My favorite post so far is her Y3W: My Monthly Goals.  She’s linked to a few couple goal setting templates that I really like and will be using to keep me on track.  And did I mention, that she and her husband are expecting another bundle of joy soon?  Can’t wait to see what other resources Mel will share and to learn more about her and her family.

Rounding out my SITS Tribe is Emma from Outmumbered.  She got clever with her blog title too.  Did you catch it?  Listen, I’ve read my share of About Me/Us pages and Emma hands down has the cutest one!  Check it out here.  If you love photos, then this is the blog for you.  I love how her passion for being behind camera and capturing the special moments she shares with her family really shines through.
I’m so jealous of her photography skills (and that she’s Irish!).  Like really, I need to get behind a camera more and capture more family moments.  And I am totally smitten with their dog Marcie!  Y’all know I’m a dog person and until we get the ok from JJ’s allergy specialist, we can’t have one.  So, once again I like to follow bloggers who have dogs as pets so that I can live through them.  Oh, if you ever want some ideas for your Elf on a Shelf check this elf mischief.

So, there you have it folks!  That is my Tribe in a nutshell.  I’ve only been interacting with these ladies a few days, but I wouldn’t trade them for anything.  We plan continuing to support each as a tribe long after this week long SITS challenge is over and for that I am grateful.  I’m looking forward to building not just a blogging relationship with these ladies, but true friendships!  Thanks SITS Girls for pairing me with such a wonderful group of ladies!!

Are you part of a SITS Tribe?  Do you feel like you’ve bonded with your tribe members already?
