“Life is a series of summits and behind each crest looms another peak to be scaled . . .”
~ Josephine Baker
Is it Thursday already? This week really got away from me. No worries though, we’re trying to soak up these last few weeks of Summer Break before school starts back next month. I’m still trying to wrap my head around that fact.
This week I’m thankful that the entire family unit was able to get out and explore Uptown. We went to Moo’s favorite place- The ImaginOn. The kids had fun. Moo’s favorite was the Clifford the Big Red Dog exhibit they had this time. JJ was still obsessed with the puppet stage and was not thrilled that the other kids were also playing with it.
Thankfully, they had some mini game stations set up in the toddler’s library and we were able to distract him with those. He’s getting better at not melting down as much when we’re in public. And if he does have a meltdown, I’m finding it easier to calm him down quickier. He also did well in his therapy session this week. His therapist noticed that he’s speaking in full sentences 85% of the time now and he’s getting better at remembering to say “Please” and “Thank you.”
My niece celebrated her birthday this week. Although, we weren’t able to attend her party we did get to talk with her on the phone and was happy to chat with Moo. Those two are bffs and it makes my heart smile that regardless of the fact that they don’t see each other often, they’re still thick as thieves. I’m grateful that my niece had a blast at her party and was surrounded by some of her other favorite people.
We’re up to 80 books for our Family Summer Reading Challenge. Only 20 more to go before we hit 100! I’m so excited that Moo has been loving this challenging and making the effort to read on her own. We’re both feeling confident with her reading skills as she prepares to start first grade. We’ve even been getting JJ in on the reading action by getting picture books that are short enough for him to read while he’s on the potty or waiting for his dinner to cool down.
Lastly, I’m grateful for everyone who’s taken time out of their Summer Break to continue to read the blog and show support. Don’t forget to check out the official YUMMommy Facebook page and the Young Urban Modern Mommies community page.
What you are giving thanks for this week?
